   did we ever settle on a name for what Pixar makes?

   i remember calling them "3D-film" in Norwegian for a while, but then the 3D glasses got popular and live action movies were suddenly known as "3D".

   the term "CG movie" is sometimes used, but that just makes me think about Avatar, which isn't quite the same.

   CG cartoon? 3D cartoon?

     @thor strong disagree. 3D computer animation was always a given. It was just a question of whos gonna do it first.

     John Lasseter more or less invented the idea that cartoons could be done with 3D animation.

     there's no reason for it to exist. he was a Disney animator and he wanted to do those on a computer, and that's why Toy Story happened.

     it's very unlikely that anybody but a Disney animator could have come up with Pixar.

     In my mind 3D animation is what Pixar/Dreamworks makes while CG movies is what Marvel does.
