So I recently played through the Edelgard route of Fire Emblem: Three Houses (Crimson Flower) again, which didn't take nearly as long as you may think, because I during my Church route playthrough had the foresight to set up a couple of different save files right before the mission where you're forced to choose between Edelgard and Rhea. So I basically just replayed that mission, sided with Edelgard and then it was her route all the way.
Crimson Flower was actually my very first 3H route (yes, literally because it had the Waifu Lord, and also because Bernadetta), but I definitely had some unfinished business with it. When I first played 3H I was still a FE Noob who played without Permadeath, and I'm a hell of a lot better at the game now. Also, there were a lot of bad choices/outcomes from my first playthrough that needed correcting:
- Saving Flayn and Seteth instead of killing them
- Killing Claude instead of sparing him
- Enabling Dimitri and Dedue to rest in peace instead of being consumed by revenge
- Actually doing a good job at Hubert's Paralogue, so that Lord Arundel doesn't get to talk shit.
- Wyvern Lord Edelgard instead of her shitty Emperor Class
The route was actually really fun - I was worried that after playing Engage, 3H would seem pretty plain and boring by comparison, but thankfully I was at the point of the game where I had access to some really great abilities like Warp and Rescue, and then post-timeskip I got Raging Storm on Edelgard, which is just crazy fucking busted - imagine looking at Awakening's Galeforce ability and thinking "nah, that's not NEARLY broken enough, we need to buff that ability hard." Oh well, while hardly well-balanced, Raging Storm Wyvern Lord Edelgard sure was fun to use, unlike my Tank Edelgard during my original playthrough.
Speaking of crazy fucking busted and Edelgard, my Edelgard was pretty damn Blessed this run - I think she only got like a couple of bad level ups during the entire game. She was just SUCH a beast, as a unit she was probably even better than my Dimitri from the Blue Lions route. In addition to Raging Storm, beastly stats and being a perfect fit for the best Class in the game, Edelgard has multiple Crests, and the fact that her Crest of Flames can randomly heal her based on damage dealt makes her potentially Godly on enemy phase.
Also, while Crimson Flower is a short, rushed route (seriously, it has like *1* actual cut-scene), its missions are all fun, especially the final two. I had played the route before the DLC and updates, so playable Jeritza was completely new to me, and I had no idea that Anna actually has her own Paralogue on the route. Definitely made replaying it all the more worthwhile.
Finally, quick thoughts on Edelgard - she's not "Based" nor is she evil, and she's much more of a Napoleon than a Hitler (make your Short jokes now). While I don't agree with her, I find her to be a much better person than Claude, her vision of Fodlan as a pure Meritocracy at least sounds good in theory, and Edelgard really believes it will benefit the people, unlike Claude's Diversity bullshit that's literally just motivated by him personally being a rootless Mutt. Obviously, Dimitri is the superior Lord with the superior Route, but I can at least somewhat understand Edelgard Defenders.

Also, given how she's my favorite 3H girl, I'm ashamed that it took me so long to realize how great Bernadetta is *as a unit*. I was definitely focusing way too much on her middling stats and so-so growths, and not picking up on just how AMAZING her personal skill is. Seriously, +5 damage to every single attack as long as Bernie is not at full health? Mentally ill women are not just better in bed, they're better in battle too!
Also, I didn't really notice until recently, but apart from Claude, Bernadetta is the only 3H character with aptitude for archery to have a Crest. Seriously, consider the likes of Ashe, Ignatz, Shamir, Leonie, Petra etc - NONE of them have Crests! That means that apart from Claude, only Bernadetta can use Failnaught without hurting herself. Also, the fact that she has a Crest of Indech makes her the PERFECT wielder of arguably the best bow in the game, The Inexhaustible. I have no idea why this was the reward for completing *Leonie's* Paralogue, given how the bow seems made for Bernadetta.
Bernie being such a good archer is a pretty big deal, because the Bow Knight class is really fucking good in Three Houses, I mean, 2+ Range AND Canto, WTF? Bernedetta benefited so much from Dancer support during the Crimson Flower late game, because with her amazing range and mobility, as well as the The Inexhaustible being a superpowered Brave Bow, she could always be counted on to kill 2 enemies every single turn. Bernie Bear is infinitely superior to that crusty old socialist Jew cuck!

@ChristiJunior I replayed edelgards route this year and also had a totally different read on her character from previous playthroughs. Before I thought she was evil with an evil ideology, but this time it really struck me that she has no ideology at all. it’s most obvious with the character endings where she goes from “I’m gonna end the evil nobility system” to “actually all my friends can keep their noble titles and rule their domains as landed nobility” but also from jeritzas supports (these were of course added later) where you learn that she helped him set up his murder estate where he regularly brings in peasants to torture and kill to satisfy his desires. That and willingly being the muscle in the underground shapeshifting satanic jews plan to cull humanity isn’t really aligned with her alleged humanist ideology. No, what she actually is is someone who is totally incapable of seeing outside of herself, completely focused on avenging personal wrongs done to her but who sincerely believes this indicates higher moral thinking and not rank self gratification. In other words: she’s a woman, and the entire story is her having one long woman moment. A great lesson in why you don’t want a woman in charge of a superpower. Crimson flower is the medieval fantasy equivalent of a Hillary Clinton presidency.
