   I'm using Gnome-based Ubuntu 23.10 with Wayland.

   I have this box in "Settings". It lets me choose "Scale" of various levels between 100% and 225%.

   I want to override this for specific *applications*. Some applications deal badly with 150% and I want to force them to 100% or 200%. How do I do this?

     Ah, on macOS, the solution is even simpler: you can’t, because you’re not supposed to have that problem

     The way you solve this same problem on Microsoft Windows is that you right-click on the application and you say "Properties".

     It appears there are different environment variables for GTK apps, KDE apps, and Electron apps, as well as additional different environment variables for *text* scaling rather than *display* scaling. Are docs for all of these various flags aggregated in one place?

     This is one of those questions where I check Google and it's not so much that I don't find an answer but rather that I get many different answers, some contradictory, some seemingly situation-specific, and some possibly outdated.

     Fair, fair. Also wouldn’t mind the ability to individually rescale apps, but yeah, Mac did the hidpi transition with amazing finesse.

     @inthehands @mcc or, more accurately, you *don’t* have that problem, because macOS had a reasonable way of properly rendering hidpi and fractionally-scaled UI components at a library/OS level from the very start of hidpi displays on their laptops.

     It’s a stupid, often extremely wasteful “bludgeon it into submission” solution, but it has the benefit of actually working properly for every app.

     Windows is about 90% of the way there. Linux is only about 60%, and the transition is extremely messy.
