@trwnh@evelyn i still don't like this ? it's so spammy and why do instances hosting the content federate those View activities to their followers; imagine federating whenever i get a new follower to all of my followers so they could update their view counter...
@helene@evelyn no, see, that makes sense if you want to replicate youtube's view counter, because there isn't a way to track views on remote instances
pixelfed is considering doing this for stories, but in that particular case, it may be easier to just require signed fetches and paginate the stories collection such that there is only one item per page
@evelyn@helene they use square profile pics in comments tho so it's such a weird design decision -- who cares if your photo is non-square? i think it's up to the displaying client to decide what to do with a photo regardless of whether it is square or not lmao
@helene@evelyn honestly though you probably *could* advertise follow activities if you really wanted to? the only issue is verifying them but that could be done by using an "approval" property similar to the reply control FEP's "replyApproval" (just generalized)
@trwnh@mastodon.social@helene@p.helene.moe no okay I looked at this again and i was mistaken on what they're actually doing, this is a bit weird imo, it'd be better to just define another crop that's a polygon in my imo
