We were assured there'd be thunder and rain here but all we've had is fucking miserable drizzle and subsequent humidity. I want my fucking money back 😭
@Grumblesock@Dan_Hulson i broke down and gave the strawberries and tomatoes a good drink this morning cuz i got them in a raised bed that drains well anyways, so it's practically impossible to overwater them in one go.
Well at least I'm not the only being led astray by weather relating to keeping the garden hydrated properly. i went out last night to water the beds that are heeled in against the building but I may have to again later today.
I wouldn't be a Brit if I weren't bitching out about the weather, i am enjoying the summer I just want my green little pals to do well. Animals are so much easier than plants.
@Grumblesock@Dan_Hulson i plan to attempt sprouting seeds off of one of my berries to rapidly increase my strawberry patch instead of letting the runners do it for me.
This is an excellent idea, I'd lose fewer crops to animals if they were higher up and the water thing would stop me fretting. I haven't got any tomatoes this year and gave up on strawberries ages ago, we actually get wild strawberries round here but they are so bland as to not be worth the bother of picking.
@Grumblesock@Dan_Hulson well with one plant, all i can do is pick one every so often and eat it, but i plan to make jam and freeze dry some of them into treats.
That's a good plan, if you're going to get strawberries in significant quantities it can't just be left up to nature alone. Do you do anything with them, like make preserves or drying etc? or just chow down on them as they are?
They really don't last long in my reach either. I've also never had enough spare to do anything with them. I'll get a boatload of loganberries come autumn and can do lots with them as they don't make for good eating out of the fruit bowl. They can't hold a candle to strawberries.
