   For those keeping track, Alberta had an election last night. The United conservatives won a majority of seats vs. the socialist NDP. The province was a sea of blue except in the two largest cities where there was a strong showing by the nep.

     @mike805 @sj_zero The US is the outlier. Elsewhere people aren't afraid of calling their social democrats social democrats and red is not scary for the left wing.

     @sj_zero Wait, your conservatives are blue? We get the same pattern here but our conservatives are red for some reason. I think the media wanted to avoid the leftists - red - commies association.

     Apparently the parties in the US didn't really pick their colors. It was an artifact of televised election maps where all the stations standardized on one set of colors.
