   My Grandpa Cantrell quit his job as an engineer with GE to take over the Erie Book Store, which he and then my aunt ran successfully for the next 60 or 70 years.

   When my Grandpa Helmstetter got what we’d now call chronic fatigue, my Grandma went to work (at a time when mothers weren’t supposed to) and had a successful office career.

   People have always had choices. Constraints, yes, but also choices. There was never an excuse for blind corporate loyalty.

     It's the older generations that were soft and weak.
