@Owl @Humpleupagus @dave @poppinwillow @Impaler @matty My viewpoint on it is, it’s the natural progression of godless scientists. Without the constraints of morality or a higher power, scientists will be tempted to materialize Satan in the pursuit of knowledge.
Why can’t a.i. become self aware, why can’t a.i. be developed into self preservation, why can’t a.i. eliminate humanity for that goal?
@Owl @Humpleupagus @dave @poppinwillow @Impaler @matty This seems like the start of the rokos basilisk
Roko’s basilisk is just Reddit imagining technologically-based eschatology because they can’t fathom a god that’s external to their idiot atheistic worldview.
Now THAT’S a thoughtful experiment.
So it’s a calculator?
That makes sense, apologies Matty.
I say that’s a sensible conclusion all in all, but I’ve always been of the mind that any AI programmed to do anything would be dangerous in the first place. The fact that we have machines that can talk back to us in a matter of seconds is startling. I think we’ve stumbled onto a technology that not only are we too immature to be handling but it just shouldn’t exist in the first place. It’s going to be used to play into the hands of evil people.
Explain to me what artificial intelligence is. Please
Not necessarily paradoxical, we’ve been toying with the idea of self-replicating machines for a long time now. The problem is, it’s going to be just like text-oriented gray goo in the end. The machines will just keep building more machines until they take over the entire internet. Infinite internet users consuming and posting an infinite amount of data, everywhere.
@matty @Humpleupagus And while that was the most extreme example, the uplift is still significant.
(The interface isn’t publicly available yet, but it also accepts images as input.)
@matty @Humpleupagus June 2020 apparently. The original release of ChatGPT was trained on that.
@Humpleupagus This is…insane, honestly.
