On the left is the entrance to the Arsenale in Venice, as captured by me in 2024. On the right, is a remarkably similar scene, painted by Canaletto in 1732.
The Venice Arsenal gave its name to all stores of weapons and ordnance around the world, but it was originally created as Europe's first ship-building 'factory', in around 1100. The version we can see today is actually the 'New' Arsenal, built in 1320.
