Revisiting this little entry in the MAME collection... forgot just how many damn suits Char pilots in this one - one which being the penultimate boss of the game.
Yes, "penultimate," because the Zeong isn't actually the final boss despite the last level very clearly depicting the Battle of A Baoa Qu right at the tail-end of the One Year War - that honor went to the Dolmel, which was made specifically for the game.
Apparently, Amuro and the Gundam survive the battle with the Zeong just long enough to be confronted by the Dolmel, helmed by one of Zeon's more mysterious ace pilots (and no, it's not Char again because he fucks off after the Zeong fight) - the last line of defense that, from what I gather, still loses even in its own ending...
...
Well, that's one way to try and keep a game semi-canonical.
