   Politically, the riots led to the rise of the Democratic Party as the representative of the working class. Tammany Hall, despite its role in instigating the violence, actively recruited Irish and other immigrant groups, bolstering their support among voters. Tammany control of city government lasted for over 20 years, resulting in improved conditions for Irish Democrats.
